Many of us have come in front of a term call Disk Defragmentation, what is it exactly ?
Well if said much honestly and simply, its just arranging of files!
The Wikipedia describes it as -
Disk Defragmenter is a utility in Microsoft Windows designed to increase access speed by rearranging files stored on a disk to occupy contiguous storage locations, a technique called defragmentation. Defragmenting a disk minimizes head travel, which reduces the time it takes to read files from and write files to the disk. Beginning with Windows XP, Disk Defragmenter also reduces system startup times.
How does it make Computer fast ?
It is given that it makes the computer fast, how so? It is like this that, defragmentation is considered an important maintenance step in keeping your computer healthy and running efficiently. A fragmented hard disk drive can slow down a computer substantially if it is not defragmented on a regular basis. It is performed with a utility included with most operating systems. Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 include Disk Defragmenter, a simple and straightforward tool.
How to Start it ?
Defragmentation can be performed in Windows by clicking on "Start," "Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" and "Disk Defragmenter." Click on the drive you'd like to analyze and Windows will inform you whether it should be degfragmented. Once defragmenting starts, it can take hours to complete. The program can be minimized and run in the background. If your drive was heavily fragmented, you should see an increase in speed while accessing programs. It is best to defragment your drives once every few months or after large amounts of data has been added or deleted.
Any Other Defragmenter ?
